Religious Education

The main aim of the Religious Education Department is to help students to understand what religion is and to help students to have an overview of different religions and cultures.

In Key Stage 3 students will study a variety of topics including signs and symbols, holy books, Islam, Judaism, life after death and marriage ceremonies. In Key Stage 4 students currently follow Edexcel Unit A. This short course GCSE covers topics such as believing in God, matters of Life and Death - including abortion and euthanasia – and social harmony.

Stocksbridge High School has long recognised and valued the contribution, which R.E. makes to the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of our students. However, we respect the right of parents to withdraw their child from Religious Education and we provide an alternative room for private study. Parents should contact the school for more information about this right.
