English

The English Department aims to develop communication skills in the following areas: Speaking and listening; Reading and Writing. Accuracy of spellings, punctuation and grammar is also important. Emphasis is placed on imaginative ideas and personal response.

Variety is the spice of life; Drama, Media and Information Technology are all vital aspects of English. Students will be introduced to a wide range of text types and be taught to develop a variety of skills for different forms of reading and writing. Students also have a separate Literacy lesson in Year 7, which aims to reinforce reading and writing skills.

At Key Stage 4, students follow the GCSE AQA syllabus in English Language and English Literature; these are two separate GCSE qualifications. Coursework and Speaking and Listening tasks are all components of the final grades. All students are entered for both examinations where possible.
