Mathematics Revision Classes

All students learn mathematics throughout the school. We aim to make every lesson an enjoyable learning experience. To do this we use a variety of teaching styles. Students may work individually, in pairs or in groups. They are encouraged to discuss their work, with each other and with their teacher.

Number is a very important part of the curriculum. The students often work without calculators, and mental arithmetic skills are encouraged. Other topics include Measurement, Algebra, Shape and Space, and Data Handling. Investigations and problem-solving activities are an integral part of the course and help to develop the skills needed for coursework in Key Stage 4. Regular homeworks, written tests and mental arithmetic tests enable us to assess the students' progress. ICT is used whenever possible.

In Key Stage 3 students follow the National Framework for Mathematics which ensures continuity from Key Stage 2. In Key Stage 4 students follow the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics syllabus. Twenty per cent of the marks are awarded for coursework. Some students follow the AQA GCSE Statistics syllabus at the Higher level. We hope to prepare our students for their future needs in further education and the world of work.
