Adverse Weather

Information to all Parents/Carers ASAP

In the winter or during spells of adverse weather we ask parents and carers to help us in the following way:

First thing in the morning please check the school website and Parentmail to check for information; we should have posted details through both of these channels by 6.45 am. We request that you follow this information and only telephone the school as an emergency in order to keep our telephone lines clear.

Our aim is always to keep the school open, but we must take into account the access routes to school, the safety of students and staff on their journey and, the safety of the school to run safely and securely for the school day. The message will indicate that there will be either a later start – with a specified time, or that school will be closed. If you do not receive a message or there is no message on the website then school will be open as normal and these decisions will be taken by 6.45 am at
the latest.

We may encounter a situation where school is in session and the weather deteriorates during the day – a prime consideration is for those students who live out of area and/or use either the school bus or public transport – our decision will be based in conjunction with the bus companies.

If adverse weather conditions continue we may then give all children the option of going home early or to a nominated friend’s house, as part of our ‘Buddy’ system.
We will not close the building and in the event of students being unable to take up these arrangements, they will be supervised in school until alternative arrangements can be made.
Once again we will share information via Parentmail and the school website throughout the day.

Thank you for your support and consideration.
