Having graduated from Manchester, I have had an extensive career in the management of the steel industry. This includes Manufacturing Director at Corus Engineering Steels, President and CEO of Plates in Tuscaloosa, US, Director at Scunthorpe Cast Products, and Managing Director at Teesside Cast Products, where I reached an agreement with an international customer consortium to secure the future of the site, and as Director of Specialised Products, covering Rotherham and Stocksbridge, and then Site Director for the Stocksbridge site.

I retired in 2009 and maintain my involvement in the voluntary sector. I was the Director of a local Nursery and formerly a Trustee at Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. I am Chair of the Finance, Properties and Personnel Committee at King Edward VII School in Sheffield, and a former member of the Governing Body of Poolsbrook and Barrow Hill Primary Schools in Derbyshire.

Myself and my wife volunteer at an Over 60s Lunches Club. I am married with two adult children,  a Freeman of the Cutler’s Company, and my interests include football, motorsports, cycling, long-distance walking and politics. My interest in grass roots football includes being an independent disciplinary panel member with the Sheffield FA as well as writing for an on-line Non-League Football website.
