Physical Education

The department has a philosophy of participation by all in an atmosphere of enjoyment and co-operation. Our facilities are brand new and provide a basis for a wide and extensive physical education programme for all our students.

We field teams in football, netball, athletics, basketball and rugby. Staff organise a programme of lunchtime and evening ‘club’ type activities, for example, fitness, netball, table tennis, badminton, cricket, football, aerobics, basketball and trampoline. The department’s links with Stocksbridge Junior Football Club and the Sports Centre are very healthy and in the summer all Year 6 students are invited to attend sports sessions as part of the transition process.

GCSE PE is an option at KS4 where students will undertake a two-year practical and theory course. Assessment is in six activities based on skill, knowledge and understanding, fitness and health and evaluation of performance. Exams are completed in both practical and theory. Students in Y9 have the opportunity to follow a 12-lesson taster course to help them with their GCSE choices. We currently use the AQA syllabus.
